As part of the program of the 30th International Book Fair of Havana, the musical magazines El Sincopado Habanero and El Eco de Las Villas were presented by their directors: Dr. Miriam Escudero and MsC. Angélica Solernou. Both agreed to recognize these publications as "daughter" magazines of the Opus Habana magazine in the presence of its founding general editor and current director: Dr. Argel Calcines.
The presentation of these publications took place in the entrance to the Lombillo Palace, which adjoins the Plaza de la Catedral, a space that was used many times by the first Historian of the City, Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, since this colonial mansion became his headquarters in 1947.
"We have resumed this tradition of using the portal to emphasise the heritage revaluation of this building, extending its cultural projection to the square, as Roig de Leuchsenring did," explained Calcines, showing archive images that corroborated his words.
Eusebio Leal Spengler also had his headquarters in the Lombillo Palace from 2001 to 2007, when he brought the magazine Opus Habana with him . Now this publication has returned to this place, "filling us with joy," said Aliana Martínez, director of the Cathedral Museums complex.
After evoking the Eternal Historian of Havana, Dr. Escudero and MsC. Solernou spoke about their respective publications, highlighting the editorial solutions that make them continuators of the concept and style of the Opus Habana magazine . The speakers highlighted that these three magazines have in common the fact that their pages reflect the work of validating the memory and safeguarding the cultural heritage of the nation in general and the musical heritage in particular.
This editorial presentation was preceded by the performance at the Palacio del Marqués de Arcos (former Artistic and Literary Lyceum of Havana) of music students Malva Rodríguez (piano), Abel Batista and Carolina Naranjo, both guitar, who performed scores published in 2021 in the pages of different issues of El Sincopado Habanero , authored by Keyla Orozco and Ailem Carvajal.
Next, pianist Annia Castillo demonstrated her excellence by playing fragments of three 19th-century dances treasured by the Historical Archive of Trinidad and reproduced in El Eco de Las Villas : Aun suspiro by Nicasio Jiménez, Así dice ella and ¡Ay! Pimpoyo no me mates , both by anonymous composers.
As the last moment of the presentation of the magazines Opus Habana , El Sincopado Habanero and El Eco de Las Villas, the attendees visited the permanent exhibition of the Opus Habana magazine at the Lombillo Palace.
